SHOPFLOOR ROUNDNESS MEASURING SYSTEM
The measurement of roundness and flatness with traditional methods, apart from particular cases, doesn't produce results comparable with those from a laboratory
roundness measuring system (Talyrond or equivalent). In fact using the traditional procedure, with two transducers in differential position (a+b), roundness is given as the result of the
max-min difference between the measured diametric variation. A roundness measuring system uses only one measuring head. It indicates the roundness as the radial difference between the
inscribed circumference and the circumscribed one after nullifying the possible concentricity error. So, with the traditional method, plausible results can be obtained only on errors with
an even number of lobes (oval, square, etc.), but not on errors with an odd number of lobes (triangle, pentagon, etc.). It's possible to use three transducers at 120° to measure
triangolarity, but in this way the ovality is not correctly read and furthermore the measuring mechanics become complicated.
ITAGEO, our special testing software, enables dimensional and geometrical inspection of several sections to be carried out in the production area
with a measuring cycle time of just a few seconds. It also produces results comparable to those from roundness measuring systems in a metrology laboratory. This is possible because it
uses the same measuring method:
One electronic contact transducer per section
Set number of values per section by end user (typically
4000)
Eccentricity evaluation and profile centering
Roundness evaluation on centered profile
Polar and linear graphics
ITAGEO allows the setting of cut-off filters, similarly to roundness measuring systems, and to search the high order harmonic (it's possible to
calculate the amplitude of the harmonics of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th order according to Fourier analysis).
ITAGEO can be used to test the dimensions and geometry of different mechanical products such as electric motor commutators, shafts (of any kind), bearings, piston rods,
cylinders, etc.
"V" Gauges
ITAGEO is able to evaluate any shape of a shaft rotating on V gauges (i.e. triangle or pentagon) giving the real roundness error.
Multi-gauging
ITADISK can read up to 16 transducers at the same time. The surfaces can be continuous or interrupted.
Gauging time
The total gauging time, including rotation, acquisition and evaluation, for medium dimension brake discs or brake drums, is less than 10 seconds.
